2026: consolidate data

The Commission's planned September 2026 methane transparency database will make importer information more structured and comparable.

  • Clean supplier master data.
  • Classify contracts after 4 August 2024.
  • Obtain first MRV certificates or reports.

2027-2028: demonstrate then quantify

From 1 January 2027 importers must demonstrate the applicable MRV level. From 5 August 2028 they must report production methane intensity.

  • Prepare evidence before renewal.
  • Monitor Commission methodologies.
  • Archive exchanges with authorities and suppliers.
